2009 the first Syrian Video Art Festival took place in Damascus, hosted and organized by AllArtNow Gallery Damascus. Referring to this important event for contemporary art in Syria the main interest of the exchange project opp_effect is the meaning of video art itself and how it is used by young contemporary artists in Syria and Germany.  A collection of video works of young artists from Halle/Leipzig will be shown in Damascus on 14.-16. February 2010 in the AllArtNow Project-Space. In September 2010 the 2nd New Media Art Festival Damascus goes on Tour: A presentation of a curated selection is planned in Halle (Saale) and Leipzig.
opp_effect // side_effect -  14.-16. February 2010
A small hand-held camera recording all the way from Berlin to a village in Bosnia out of the car, senseless stories about strange day activities for an unknown cyberspace-audience, self made music clips, outtake material and found footage – The exhibition opp_effect // side_effect  shows different artistic strategies of working with the medium video. The focus of the collection lies on low budget projects, which are playing and experimenting with (im-)possibilities of video technology. Video always includes an opposite, it uses the projection as a way for expression. The works that are shown at opp_effect // side_effect are using, reflecting and interpreting these opp_ and side_effects of video as a mass media phenomenon and an easy operating tool. (YA)
